Here are ten of the best new short circular walks from Cheshire’s ever-popular, 34 mile/55 kilometre long Sandstone Trail.

The Trail runs from Frodsham on the Mersey in the north to the charming Georgian market town of Whitchurch, just over the border in Shropshire, in the south.

Along the way, you’ll pass everything from prehistoric hill forts, a medieval castle high on its crag and an authentic Victorian replica of a Norman castle only a stone’s throw away, to stunning views, caves and breezy panoramas.

This book explores not just the expected highlights but also new perspectives from unusual places and unfamiliar paths that only the locals usually know.

Featured walks include a loop around two hillforts above the Mersey, an ink-black lake in Delamere Forest, a circuit of Cheshire’s twin castles, and two unusual circuits close to the famous Pheasant Inn at Higher Burwardsley.

These new walks are a delight and not to be missed.
