2008

March

Two new books are published this month.

The first is a wholly revised edition of a classic mountaineering title: The Day the Rope Broke, by Ronald W Clark. It's the exhilirating, yet ultimately tragic story of the first ascent of the Matterhorn by Edward Whymper and his party, in July 1865. The remarkable ascent and its terrible aftermath form one of the key events in mountaineering history. Available in both hardback and softback.

A Pocket Guide to Snowdonia's Best Mountain Walks £6.99

The second book is a potential future mountain classic: A Pocket Guide to Snowdonia's Best Mountain Walks, by Carl Rogers. Gathered together here are some of the very best high level walks and scrambles throughout Snowdonia, with at least one walk in each of the nine main hill groups: the Carneddau, Glyderau, Snowdon, Eifionydd, Moelwynnion, Rhinogydd, Arenig, Cadair Idris, and the Arans. In full colour, with detailed route descriptions, coloured relief maps, and extensively illustrated with superb photographs.
