Synopsis

The Wirral Shore Way is a linear footpath that links the historic walled city of Chester with Hoylake and Hilbre Island at the mouth of the River Dee. Where possible the walk follows the old river bank of the Dee, which now lies either many miles inland or is only occasionally visited by the tide. Along this coast a line of historic small ports and anchorages were established during the Middle Ages when the river Dee began to silt up, preventing ships from reaching the city.

A Walker's Guide to the Wirral Shore Way will take you along the estuary through some of Wirral's most attractive countryside and loveliest villages. The gentle terrain means the walk can be enjoyed throghout the year by walkers of all abilities.
