NORTHERN EYE BOOKS are Cheshire-based independent regional publishers of outdoor, climbing, scrambling and walking books covering Wales and North West England.
Northern Eye Books was set up as a limited company in June 2005 by a small group of seasoned walkers, writers, photographers, and graphic designers to publish a range of exciting, quality-led, regional outdoor books and guides.
Our aim is to design and produce innovative regional books to the highest national and international standards. Excellent sales and positive feedback from readers and bookshops suggest they are enjoyed by active and armchair walkers alike. Excellence in concept, content and design is our watchword.
We believe in good writing, good structure, good design and attractive covers. Our walking and outdoor books feature carefully selected routes, easy to follow walking directions, clear maps and fascinating information about places of interest along the way. Our books are also attractively and realistically priced. All of which makes for great books that are a pleasure to read.
We specialise in walking, climbing, scrambling, hillwalking, countryside and outdoor leisure titles. Northern Eye Books also publish new editions of classic mountain, countryside and walking books, with redesigned covers, revised layouts, and new and archive photographs for added interest.
We also create books to suit your needs, either on commission or in partnership.
Carl Rogers Creative and Sales Director
Carl originally trained as a graphic designer and worked in marketing as a designer and photographer for almost 20 years before becoming a full time publisher in 2003. Over the last ten years he has combined his interests in writing, publishing, walking and the outdoors to develop a series of popular local books published under the Mara Books imprint. Most of the stunning landscape photographs of Wales and the Welsh mountains that appear throughout our books have been taken and enhanced in Photoshop by Carl. He is a founding director of Northern Eye Books.
Tony Bowerman Editorial and Commissioning Director
Tony is an anthropology postgraduate with over 25 years' experience as a publisher, copywriter, and heritage and countryside interpretation consultant. He has a long track record of taking complex publishing and interpretive projects through every stage from concept to completion, both for Wordplay Publishing and Northern Eye Books, and for clients such as The National Trust, English Nature, Cadw and the RSPB. Special areas of expertise include history, natural history and the environment. He is also a founding director of Northern Eye Books.
Northern Eye Books' associated imprints include Mara Books, Alyn Books, and Wordplay Publishing; some of the books and guides shown here are also marketed separately under those names.
We also publish a series of popular local tourist guides for the ancient walled city of Chester, in Cheshire, UK.
The registered office of Northern Eye Books Limited is Adams & Co Accountants Limited, 2 Millers Bridge, Bootle, Liverpool, L20 8LH.
